Application Deadline: 22 August 2025
Department: The Future of Technology Institute
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: France
Description
About the role
We are hiring a France Lead to join The Future of Technology Institute (FoTI), a new European think tank housed within the Meliore Foundation. This is an important new role that will have the opportunity to help shape FoTI's strategic direction in France and across Europe.
About FoTI
FoTI champions competitive, open markets where innovation thrives and people have real choices in shaping their digital future.
Across the continent, political and business interests have started to coalesce behind a unifying idea: Europe's dependency on monopoly tech is an existential risk to its security, prosperity, and democracy. Europe needs rapidly to build credible alternatives, bolster its law enforcement, and break free of monopoly control.
The future of European tech can be open, fair, and democratic:
FoTI enables the conditions for policymakers, civil society and entrepreneurs to develop and scale alternatives to the dominant tech firms. We use advocacy, analysis, and strategic alliances to build a sovereign and prosperous European technology ecosystem. We partner with tech policy leaders, challenger businesses, civic actors, and enforcers to light routes away from monopoly-and to lift up the best alternatives.
The France Lead is a new role. You will develop and implement an advocacy strategy for France based on our European theory of change, working with a network of advocates across Europe. In this role, you will find and pursue advocacy opportunities for FoTI and its partners in France, and build relationships with leaders and stakeholders in industry, policy, and media. You will be part of a small but growing team collaborating in the EU and UK to build a sovereign, prosperous tech economy. This is the first role in France in the team. If this sounds like you, we'd love for you to apply.

- Where anyone with a great idea can launch a startup in Europe and grow it to serve millions-without leaving the EU or struggling in a field dominated by Big Tech incumbents.
- Where a designer in Stockholm, a shoemaker in Florence, or a rapper in Marseille can reach new audiences and customers online-without unfair exploitation by dominant platforms.
- Where Europeans can connect and stay informed online-without losing control over the content they see or the data they share.

You will be part of a small but growing team collaborating in the EU and UK to build a sovereign, prosperous tech economy. This is the first role in France in the team. If this sounds like you, we'd love for you to apply.
How you'll contribute
- Independently develop and implement an advocacy strategy for France based on the wider team strategy for Europe. The strategy aims to engage national officials in tackling and dispersing monopoly power in tech, supporting alternatives, including members of the executive and legislative branches as well as regulators, with an emphasis on identifying partners and interventions.
- Lead and manage French policy work, in coordination with FoTI leadership, setting clear goals and measuring impact.
- Build a diverse advocate network in France and Europe, identifying allied voices and leaders to progress our goals; commission supporting research and analysis.
- Build and maintain relationships with partners in France, ranging from businesses to NGOs and academics and offer strategic advice that supports policy objectives, and provide them with a link to the network of tech advocates and wider Meliore programmes in Tech and Society.
- Show leadership in the network, for example conceptualising and implementing new programmes of work in the network.
- Develop and maintain trusted relationships with policymakers in France, as well as select journalists in France and the wider EU.
- Lead and deliver high quality advocacy interventions (policy briefs, roundtables, public events) in line with our objectives. Monitor and evaluate the impact and outcomes of work.
- Find opportunities and decide when interventions should be made to influence debate and advance our strategic objectives.
- Undertake proactive media work, e.g. expanding and maintaining media relationships to brief journalists, drafting comment pieces for local media, considering opportunities for in-depth investigative work.
- Closely follow the political and media discussion in France and Europe more widely as relevant to your strategy to proactively identify opportunities for intervention. Act as a source of intelligence for colleagues and partners.
- Develop structures and approaches that can react quickly to emerging opportunities and changes in context, while working with an international network to deliver relevant advocacy content localized/tailored for respective audiences.
- Monitoring, evaluation and reporting on advocacy efforts against strategy.
- Independently managing and monitoring project budgets (including some financial and administrative tasks)
- Management of junior national policy roles as the team grows.
- Any other duties to be assigned from time to time.
Our ideal candidate has
- Extensive experience in an advocacy role, with an understanding of the key decisionmakers and their networks. Experience working directly with policymakers, regulators, think tanks, industry, and journalists.
- Exceptional oral communications skills. You should be someone who can brief a policymaker or a journalist in a way that is credible - but memorable.
- Excellent writing. You should also be able to craft succinct, compelling policy briefs that resonate with time-pressed leadership but are tethered to the best thinking in law, policy, economic, and technical disciplines.
- Experience in the technology field is a plus, but not a requirement.
- Strong networking abilities to build and maintain relationships with key partners in the technology and political fields. Ability to creatively form new relationships with diverse voices outside of the technology space.
- Project management skills to transform ideas into outputs and manage their delivery, collaborating with various partners and experts.
- The ability to monitor political debates across a range of technology-related issues, through media tracking and informal intel gathering.
- A self-starting attitude, capable of working independently to establish relationships and drive projects.
- A generous, collaborative disposition in a high-trust global community of peers.
- Solid understanding of wider French policy debates, with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders and advise partners on advocacy strategies.
- Residency in France and fluency in French.
- Fluency in written and spoken English, our working language; additional European languages are an asset.
- Genuine passion for a positive technology future.
- Skills to thrive in a fast-paced work environment, using tools like Zoom and Signal.
- A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach.
Why join us?
- Be part of a dynamic, growing, remote-first network of professionals working on technology in Europe. We offer coworking access in Paris.
- Work with a bunch of dynamic, culturally diverse individuals who combine their passion to make a difference with a rigorous, results-oriented approach to work.
- Be part of cutting-edge thinking on the future of the European technology space, with a diverse range of partners who are world-leading experts in their field.
- Enjoy regular opportunities to collaborate with colleagues around the world.
- A full-time position with a consultant or employment contract, subject to location, for 12 months, with possible renewal after one year. Only candidates with the right to work in their location will be considered.
- Salary range: EUR 65,000 - 73,000 per year
