Job Description:

Do you want to join a passionate, proactive, and maturity-minded team, leading test campaigns to ensure best-in-class maturity of the products we deliver to our Customers?

Join AIRBUS Flight & Integration Test Centre NOW and get close to the product, interfaced with numerous stakeholders in a transnational environment!

A vacancy for an Avionics Network & Shared Resources Test Leader (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Commercial Aircraft in Toulouse. You will join the Test & Integration group for Maintenance, Connectivity & Data (1VVAD).

The jobholder will be involved in testing of avionics shared resources (IMA) and on-board data communication network (ADCN) on current AIRBUS Programs (A380, A350, A400M). He/She will also contribute to shaping the testing strategy of future, more innovative on-board data processing and data distribution architectures, in the frame of R&T projects, with the objective to prepare the Avionics backbone of next generation Aircraft families. The balance between both dimensions (state-of-the-art Programs on one hand ; R&T on the other) is of utmost importance, as in Flight & Integration Test Centre we think that we will be even better at building the Future if we well master and understand the Present.

Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) is a state-of-the art distributed architecture for Avionics systems; it consists in using identical generic modules to host different software applications (instead of having specific, dedicated hardware for each avionics application). This principle allows to drastically simplify spare parts management in Airlines operations, but also to optimize on-board computation and data processing capacities. This is why we refer to it as "Avionics Shared Resources".

The AFDX (Avionics Full-Duplex Switched Ethernet) network is an onboard Ethernet-based data transportation infrastructure ensuring data exchanges between the various systems of the airplane (including IMA modules and replaceable units). Each system of the airplane is connected to one node of the network (called "switch") and the routing of messages and data between systems is configured through a loadable "configuration file", making this solution very scalable and evolutive.

Both IMA and AFDX are technologies first embedded on A380 and further deployed and optimized on subsequent Programs (A400M, A350). Test activities related to IMA address a wide scope ranging from physical layer of the network to integration of the end to end maintenance.

AFDX Network and IMA platforms offer multiple opportunities to collect data about avionics system behavior. These data are generally stored in log files. Analysis of log files correlated to operational parameters will lead to significant improvements regarding detection of anomalies.

The jobholder will lead various missions such as:
  • involvement in the definition of tests very early during development;
  • supplier tests monitoring;
  • tests preparation;
  • tests analysis after test execution;
  • analysis of flight test data.

You will be in interface with numerous stakeholders, including Design Offices and Test Centres in Toulouse (France), Hamburg (Germany) and Filton (UK).

In the frame of A350XWB, A380, A400M and new developments, the jobholder will have the following missions and responsibilities:

- IMA/AFDX test preparation
  • define and deploy the testing strategy, challenging the design office when needed and proposing test scenarios enrichment based on our technical and operational knowledge;
  • Identify needs for test means evolutions and manage proper implementation of this evolutions;
  • Perform Supplier Test Monitoring in case of new development
  • Design test procedures including partly automatic testing

- IMA/AFDX testing
  • Perform test campaigns and provide continuous test progress to Design Offices as well as test result analysis;
  • Give status on test progress and technical events;
  • Improve test strategy and propose quick improvement to optimize activity efficiency;
  • Improve test means (including flight test installation on flight test aircraft) and ensure compliance with test needs;
  • Improve flight test data analysis by correlation of monitoring data with operational data;
  • Contribute to a technical follow-up of test activities subcontracted.

- Shape the future of IMA/AFDX testing
  • Contribute to in service analysis in order to collect elements for design of new architectures.
  • Define efficient way of testing for new architectures (including automatic testing, virtual testing...)
  • Define multi-purpose test means to address several programs or several architecture variants

Expected profile:

We are looking for a proactive engineer, ideally with the following profile:
  • Graduated in aeronautics or IT/network
  • Open-minded, curious, problem-solving oriented, with a real taste for technical disciplines
  • good communication and synthesis skills
  • Avionics systems knowledge gained through a previous valuable experience would be strongly appreciated
  • A first experience on testing would be a plus

An advanced level of English and an intermediate level of French are mandatory

That being said, we are not looking for someone already fully knowledgeable on the topic! If you are motivated, curious about the technology, eager to develop your project management skills and wishing to tackle the upcoming challenges of 1V, you are welcome to apply!

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.
