The Altea Engineering division (from JAN 23), part of Travel Unit, is responsible for a suite of integrated IT solutions developed by Amadeus specifically for the airline industry. It encompasses a wide range of modules and applications that support various airline operations, including reservations, inventory management, departure control, e-commerce, revenue management, loyalty programs, and more. Altea is designed to help airlines streamline their operations, enhance customer service, and improve overall efficiency. It is widely used by airlines around the world to manage their core business processes and deliver a seamless travel experience to their passengers.

One of Altea Engineering's key mission is the Offer management: enabling airlines to dynamically adapt the content of their offers to better manage supply and demand, benefiting both the airline and the consumer. This is achieved through the use of sophisticated revenue management, dynamic pricing and merchandising systems that allow for almost limitless bundling and unbundling of ancillaries with core flight products, without the constraints of published fares. The result is a more personalized and relevant offer for the consumer, and increased revenue for the airline.

Amadeus Offer Business Domain is, indeed, in charge of all the IT solutions allowing the airlines to : define, build, optimize, retail and distribute their content (flights, ancillaries, goods) or the one of their partners (other flights, car rentals, insurances, hotels...). Our products are at the heart of the traveler journey:
  • When searching for flights, our shopping solutions have parsed hundred thousands combinations in the blink of an eye, to provide you just the right ones
  • Behind every prices, our Revenue Management Systems and Dynamic Pricing have crunched millions of data points and tens of feeds ( Customer data, historical data, competition, ...) to define the right price and content to optimize the revenue, maximize the conversions.
  • Booking through a travel agent or a metasearch? Our NDC API solutions allow to shop, price, book, pay and exchange or refund directly the airline dynamic offers : the best content, to all channels!

You will join Execution and Support Development (ESD) team within Revenue Management Organization (TRU-ALT-ENG-OFR-REV). In the REV organization, we are in charge of the Revenue Management System and Dynamic Pricing products which both aim at optimizing the revenue of the airlines. Our team is in charge of the execution of the core logic of the system, as well as guaranteeing the platform stability and providing support both to developers, customers and other stakeholders.

Your next SAFe train: RMS

The RMS (Revenue Management Solutions) train encompasses a diverse range of products, including NRM (Network Revenue Management), SRM (Segment Revenue Management), and Data and Cockpit Platform Governance. This encompasses the entire spectrum from data to UI, covering everything from research and requirement analysis to implementation services.
The technical scope of the RMS train is extensive, incorporating:
  • Standard OBE C++/Python programming languages.
  • Database technologies such as Oracle and MongoDB.
  • Big Data stack, utilized both in Erding (Lambda box) and on Azure (Databricks).
  • Development of Angular 16 web applications, along with the Apache web server.

This broad range of technologies and platforms ensures a comprehensive approach to delivering efficient and effective revenue management solutions.

Your next agile team: FirstAID

The team you will join is responsible for Architecture, Infrastructure, Databases, as well as support.

This includes overseeing technical migrations, managing tools, and providing production support for the train's operations.

By ensuring the stability and efficiency of the technical ecosystem, the team plays a crucial role in enabling the smooth functioning of the RMS train and its associated products.

By supporting internal customer-oriented teams for the implementation of new customers, the team helps reducing the time to market and ensures that the setup of our application is future-proof.

By handling production incidents in a timely manner, the team is key to maintaining a high customer satisfaction.

Purpose, Goals and deliverables

As a Product Owner in a SAFe environment you will be the professional responsible for organizing, prioritizing, and assessing work for our team. You will play a crucial role in managing the product development process, ensuring that we meet the needed requirements and preferences within Revenue Management. You will contribute to the development of software components in the scope of the ongoing projects mainly focused, but not limited to, Cloud migration, Stability (SSI), and DevExp improvements. The infrastructure comes with strict technical constraints of scalability, resiliency and efficiency, relying on a standard C++ OBE stack, several datastores (Oracle + MongoDB), lots of batches orchestrated by Control-M, and much more!

Responsibilities

Incorporate feature requests into product roadmap: you will gather feature requests from stakeholders (having meetings and communication channels with Amigos and Epic Owners) in line with the train priorities and incorporates them into the product roadmap. You will prioritize these features based on business value and user needs.

Groom and prioritize backlog: you will maintain the product backlog, ensuring that it contains well-defined user stories, prioritizing backlog items based on business goals, technical feasibility, and customer impact.

Develop user stories and define acceptance criteria: working closely with cross-functional teams, you will participate to the creation of user stories that describe specific functionality from an end-user perspective. You will also be responsible of defining acceptance criteria to ensure clear expectations for each feature.

Set sprint goals: during PI and Iteration planning, you will collaborate with the development teams to set sprint goals.

Plan releases and upgrades: you will coordinate the release schedule, ensuring that valuable features are delivered to users in a timely manner, based on business priorities.

Follow progress of work and address production issues during sprints: throughout the sprint, you will monitor progress, communicates with the team, and addresses any production issues that arise.

Analyze feedback: you will stay attuned to feedback from customer, stakeholders, amigos and other development teams within the RMS Train. You will use this information to refine and adapt both the the product and the agile practices (continuous improvement).

Common accountabilities
  • Work experience: candidates should have prior experience as a Product Owner or in a similar role within product management.
  • Agile familiarity: knowledge of agile methodologies (such as Scrum and SAFe).
  • Product life cycle management: hands-on experience managing all stages of the product life cycle, from ideation to release.
  • Has the required technical/functional knowledge and experience in own discipline. Knowledge of the Amadeus business and how it is related to own area.
  • Technical background: familiarity with our technical stack is beneficial.
  • Team spirit and communication: strong collaboration skills and effective communication with cross-functional teams.
  • Works using existing procedures or guidelines and provides inputs to support/influence area decisions. Makes recommendations on new solutions and proposes improvements by analyzing different sources of information.
  • Organizational skills: ability to manage priorities, backlog, and sprint planning effectively.

Technical skills:
  • Knowledge on C++ and Scripting languages (Python, Shell, ...)
  • Experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or production support roles would be a valuable asset.
  • Familiarity with cloud technologies such as Openshift, Helm, ArgoCD, and other relevant platforms would be advantageous.
