Come create the technology that helps the world act together
We are a B2B technology innovation leader pioneering networks that sense, think and act™.
At Nokia, we create technology that helps the world act together. We put the world's people, machines and devices in sync to create a more sustainable, productive and accessible future.
Your career here will have a positive impact on people's lives and will help us build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive world.
For the past 100 years, Bell Labs has been harnessing the extraordinary imaginations of our researchers to fuel visionary breakthroughs. Our pioneering progress has expanded possibilities to solve humanity's most pressing challenges. As Nokia's industrial research lab, we keep innovating with purpose, pursuing responsible, sustainable technologies that will have a demonstrative impact on society.
The AI Research Lab at Bell Labs invites applications for PhD positions in machine learning, mathematics, networking, modeling, and optimization. The Lab has a long tradition of excellence in research and currently consists of 80 staff members with expertise in algorithmic and computing sciences, network measurement and optimization, information theory, and machine learning.
The current PhD position is open in the Machine Learning and Systems Group in the AI Research lab and will be carried out as part of the EU Marie Curie EXACT-6G Doctoral Network.
Responsibilities
The successful applicants will work with our current team to conduct high-quality fundamental research and apply the findings to problems that arise in a wide range of Nokia applications and use cases.
ML techniques for service deployment at the edge-cloud compute continuum
In the scope of this offer, the candidate will contribute to the study of edge-to-cloud compute continuum technologies in the context of novel 6G architectures. The candidate will study and propose AutoML resource allocation mechanisms (including Deep and Multi Agent RL) to efficiently allocate computational resources while reacting to mobility and other sources of contention. The ability to model and predict upcoming changes in 6G deep edge conditions is a key contribution that shall leverage the functionalities of PaaS frameworks and ETSI NFV standard interfaces towards supporting new and demanding edge ML workloads and use cases.

Additional admissibility criteria according to the EU MSCA grant:
(Mobility Criteria) :The successful applicant must not have been resident in the country of first hire (France) for more than 12 months over a three-year period before their onboarding. Please list the countries where you resided over the last three years.
(Admissibility) : The EXACT-6G project aims to recruit early-stage researchers who have not yet completed their doctoral training and don't hold a PhD degree.
