Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Data Scientist Engineer for Weather & Climate Challenges to join our Aircraft Architecture & Integration department in Toulouse, France.

You will be part of a team developing solutions for the decarbonization of commercial aviation. Within the Environment & Energy team, you will be involved in developing solutions for the mitigation of non-CO2 emissions from aviation, particularly those related to contrails.

At Airbus, we help you work, connect, and collaborate more easily and flexibly. Wherever possible, we promote flexibility in our working methods to stimulate the spirit of innovation. Airbus is a pioneer in sustainable aviation. As part of this approach, Airbus has recently strengthened its ambition and plan to reduce the climate impact of non-CO2 emissions from aviation, especially contrails. This commitment reflects a strong momentum across the entire aeronautical ecosystem on the subject (e.g., proposed European regulation, a dedicated symposium at ICAO, pressure from NGOs, and interest from new players like Google...). A European regulation is being deployed (EU MRV) that could lead to the monetization (i.e., taxation) of these non-CO2 emissions for airline customers operating in European airspace. In this context, using weather and flight trajectory data models and with the help of digital tools, you will need to extract and integrate structured and unstructured data from various databases to propose operational avoidance solutions for areas where contrails form and persist.

Your Work Environment

As the world capital of aeronautics and the European capital of space research, Toulouse is a dynamic city in the southwest of France served by an international airport. Ideally located between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and near the Pyrenees, it offers many opportunities for outdoor activities!

Because We Care About You

  • Financial benefits: Attractive salary, profit-sharing and participation agreements, a company savings plan supplemented by Airbus, and an employee share ownership plan on a voluntary basis with free shares allocated based on the number of shares subscribed.
  • Work-life balance: Additional days off for special occasions and leave transfer options, a works council offering many socio-cultural activities and other services.
  • Well-being / health: Supplementary health and welfare coverage (disability, invalidity, death). Depending on the site: health services center, concierge services, gym, carpooling app.
  • Individual development: Numerous career progression and training opportunities (a catalog of over 10,000 e-learning courses available for free access to develop your employability, certifications, accelerated development programs, expert tracks, and national and international mobility).

At Airbus, we help you work, connect, and collaborate more easily and more flexibly. Your Challenges

  • Develop, test, and implement the most suitable analytical models to identify significant patterns or trends from complex datasets and data types (weather and flight trajectory data).
  • Regularly analyze and improve the accuracy of the models against the needs of operational avoidance.
  • Communicate results using effective and easy-to-understand data visualizations, tailored to the audience.
  • Act as the interface between Airbus functions, the data ecosystem, and the required solution.
  • Actively contribute and share best practices, findings, and techniques with the broader data community.

Your Position

Your position will be critical for the development of the research and technology (R&T) required on non-CO2 effects and particularly on contrails. Airbus is already actively contributing to research on the subject through technical partnerships (to name just a few projects: the ECLIF and VOLCAN flight tests, as well as the SESAR3 CICONIA project on operational contrail avoidance). We plan to continue to develop our contribution and leadership on this topic in the coming years, notably with an ambitious follow-up to the Airbus-led CICONIA project. Within the CICONIA project and its successors, we need an engineer with a unique combination of skills: data science + climate impact science of aviation + weather forecasting science + air traffic modeling. We are also looking for someone who is comfortable with academic working methods and capable of coordinating this multi-domain area of expertise with the company's main engineering and digital functions.

Your Boarding Pass

  • 3 years of experience in:
    • Data science
    • Weather and climate
    • Air traffic management
  • Don't match 100%? Don't worry! Airbus will support you in your development plan.

Take your career to a new dimension by applying online now!

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company's success, reputation and sustainable growth.
