Lead Release Train Engineer (RTE) for SWA Express Agile Release Train
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) to join the South West Airline Competency Center team. The SWA Express Agile Release Train (ART) encompasses several streams (and growing!) of the SWA Competency Center (CC). The RTE plays a critical role in facilitating its processes and execution, ensuring the successful delivery of value through effective coordination and collaboration across multiple Agile teams belonging to several Amadeus business domains.

Key Responsibilities

Coach the agile practices: The RTE is a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train and:

* Is a key change agent: Manage Request For Changes (RFCs) to ensure smooth communication & understanding of their reasons & implications toward delivery team
* Create an environment of mutual influence, encourage personal development, and support the commitment made by the train
* Listen and support people on problem identification and decision making
* Is responsible for implementing SAFE model best practices by federating & coaching train stakeholders on adopting Agile mindset
* Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
* Encourage collaboration between teams, Amigos and stakeholders

Ensure predictability of the train, availability, and transparency of the train's SAFe artifacts
* Manage and optimize the flow of value through the release train;
* Assist tracking the execution of features and capabilities
* Budget definition, control and dispatch, implementation of the lean budgeting (Note: still in progress for SWA Express)
* Provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks
* Track and communicate key ART execution metrics

Facilitate Agile Release Train events
* Ensure Alignment by organizing & facilitating Program Increment Planning Events
* Facilitate System Demos
* Establish and communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs)
* Is the master of ceremonies at train level.
* Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices
* Summarize Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency (Note: still in progress for SWA Express)

Ensure Quality of delivery, and leverage customer feedback
* Work with Customer Success and Solution Definition Management, Product Owners / Stream Leaders, and other stakeholders to help ensuring strategy and execution alignment
* Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings.
* Facilitate periodic synchronization meetings

Manage risk and dependencies

* Identify, track, and mitigate risks and dependencies across teams to ensure smooth and efficient delivery.

Continuous Improvement
* Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adapt workshops; assess the agility level of the ART and help them improve

Specific Responsibilities

As stated, the SWA Express ART is included into a bigger structure which is the SWA PSS Competency Center (CC).

As long as all CC teams are not embarked in SWA Express ART, the role encompass as well a Program Manager role to ensure cohesion between embarked team and other CC ones, including CSMs, Solution and Delivery.

The role requires a strong collaboration as well with the head of SWA PSS and program management team in place.

Experience/Skills:
  • Experience: project management and/or leading role within SAFe/Agile environments
  • Recommended training: Leading SAFe is a must. SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification is a plus. Strong understanding of SAFe principles and practices, Agile methodologies, and Lean thinking.
  • Animation & Facilitation: Must be able to animate and facilitate discussions and alternatives or different approaches. Encourage the flow of information and creativity between individuals, and through the ART.
  • Feedback and continuous improvement attitude: Ability to foster feedback exchanges, break habits and foster experiments
  • Communication & Facilitation: Ability to express, and be receptive to others ideas & views and to pass on information in an open and honest manner which is clear and which others understand. Be able to talk as an ART.
  • Working together: Understanding ourselves and moderating our responses. Talking effectively and empathizing accurately. Building relationships of trust, respect, and productive interactions. Promote balance team members participation/visibility.
  • Attitude of transparency: Must desire to bring disclosure and transparency to the stakeholders about development and foster trust
  • Tools: Proficiency with Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira) and collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence, MS Teams, Mural, Sharepoint).
