Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We want you as a talented materials development and industrialization engineer to help us in our mission by supporting thermal protection (TP) materials development as well as by supporting the setting up and regular enhancement of our Thermal Protection System industrial tool, both internal and external to our company.

Key Responsibilities

You will have a key responsibility at the crossroads of material development and industrialization. Your role will be continuously evolving but will include the following core responsibilities with expectations adapted to the space applications and programmatic constraints:

• Technological watch for future projects in particular for reusable applications (materials with enhanced performance, new technologies including new manufacturing)
• TP material concept proving (TRL 1-2)
• TP Material development up to validation (TRL 3 to 5)
• TP material performance demonstration (TRL 6)
• Pre-industrialization and industrialization in tandem with AIT (Assembly, Integration and Test) team and Product Assurance team up to MRL/IRL 8
• AIT support to achieve Low rate initial production (LRIP) capability demonstration (MRL/IRL 9) then Full Rate Production (FRP) capability demonstration (MRL/IRL 10) including optimization of the industrial tool towards more efficiency, increased availability, reduced costs, and reduced environmental impact
• Product Assurance support with respect to supply chain
• Documentation for the various reviews (TRL review, PDR, CDR, QR, Make or Buy reviews, First Article Inspection (FAI)/MRR, LRIP and FRP decision reviews)
• Generate technical reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.

What we would love to see from you

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Material and Processes engineering, Industrial engineering
• Knowledge and experience in composite material manufacturing as well as chemical and mechanical assembly processes
• 3-5 years of working proven experience in industrialization processes and Product Assurance in any relevant industry model
• Basic knowledge on spacecraft systems and reentry vehicles would be an asset
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail as well as organizational skills
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (System, Design, AIT, Product Assurance, Procurement)
• Experience in building & managing collaborative R&D projects
