Upway is on a mission to make electric mobility accessible to all. We buy, refurbish, and resell e-bikes across Europe and the US. We've already sold over 80,000 e-bikes in 8 countries, and we're aiming to process over 1 million bikes by 2030. Backed by top-tier investors - including Sequoia - and growing fast, we're building the most trusted platform for circular mobility.

Now we're looking for a CTO to fuel our next phase of growth. You'll work hand in hand with our founders and join our leadership team to turn Tech into a core driver of innovation, efficiency, and growth as we scale from $200M to $2B in GMV.

French speaking is not a requirement and non-french speakers are encouraged to apply to this position.

What You Will Do

• Build a world-class team: Scale our engineering team from 10 to 50+ over the next 3 years, starting with our strong existing team of full-stack engineers. Hire outstanding talent, design a high-performance org and shape a high-ownership culture.
• Own the architecture: Design and evolve a resilient, scalable architecture to support our ambition: 1M bikes processed per year across 20+ UpCenters in 10+ countries globally.
• Drive big bets: Lead major initiatives, from a consumer mobile app to a SaaS offering for retailers, and turn our operations stack into a strategic moat.
• Connect tech & business: Make high-quality decisions that balance long-term architecture with fast-paced business needs. Partner with our experienced Market GMs across Europe and the US to tailor tech solutions to local needs while building a global platform.
• Shape the company's future: Join the leadership team and work closely with the co-founders, Product Lead, and GMs to redefine customers' experience through superior technology and operational excellence.
• Stay close to the code: Provide hands-on leadership where needed, supporting the team with technical insight, architectural reviews, and mentoring.

Working hand in hand with our Product team, our tech team builds and powers:

1. Sourcing tools for businesses and consumers to sell e-bikes to Upway, fast and frictionless
2. E-commerce experiences and ancillary services that redefine how people and retailers buy and own e-bikes
3. Operational systems that run our global network of refurbishment UpCenters at unmatched quality and efficiency

What You Will Need

• You've scaled teams: You've led the growth of a team from 10 to 50+, ideally as CTO or early engineering leader in a high-growth environment
• You are strategic + hands-on: You think long-term, love complex architecture decisions, but also roll up your sleeves when needed
• You build high-performing teams and culture: You know how to hire, coach, and retain A-players
• You think globally: You've built for multiple markets, ideally with a consumer or marketplace angle, and are excited to work with commercial, ops, and product leaders to shape customer-first solutions across different markets
• Clear communicator: You can explain complex trade-offs to both technical and non-technical peers

• Language: English by default - we're an international team. French is not required.
