Responsibilities

We are seeking a Principal System Architect to manage and maintain our framework and legacy systems, including UNIX, Linux, and IBM Power (AIX, IBMi) environments. The ideal candidate will ensure the reliability, performance, and security of critical systems while supporting ongoing operations and migrations as part of our IT modernization efforts.

This role, while centered on a specific area of expertise, is part of a team of highly skilled system engineers and architects delivering a broad spectrum of server services. Consequently, the responsibilities of this position may evolve or expand over time.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Manage, configure, and maintain UNIX like HPUX, Solaris, AIX systems in a multi-platform environment. Knowledge on IBMi, OpenVMS & z-Linux under z/VM should be a plus.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements to optimize performance.
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
  • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness for critical systems.
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
  • Document legacy configurations and processes for knowledge sharing and future migrations.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects, providing technical expertise on legacy systems.
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience managing UNIX, Linux, and AIX systems in enterprise environments.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting and automation tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with experience diagnosing and resolving complex system issues.
  • Knowledge of virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, PowerVM, PowerVC) and storage systems.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery processes for legacy systems.
  • Knowledge of legacy system modernization techniques.
  • Experience working in high-availability and mission-critical environments.
